Starstruck, now beautifully restored in the digital format has had its first public screenings.
In August it played to a full house at the Melbourne International Film Festival with Director Gillian Armstrong, music producer Molly Meldrum and songwriter Billy Miller as special guests.
In November there was also a special Screening at the Bondi Pavillion where scenes from the film were shot with Producer, David Elfick, Adrienne Reid (who did continuity) and a gang of girls in the audience who appeared as extras in in the film, all in the audience.
At both screenings the audience laughed, applauded and had a great time. It may be 35 years old but Australia’s first movie musical still has that magic to entertain. In February 2018 there will be further screenings in Sydney at Event Cinemas George Street and The Golden Age Cinema. Come along and see it again on the big screen!
Thanks to the National Film and Sound Archive who restored the film under the watchful eye of Chief curator Gayle Lake. Key creatives Gill Armstrong, Russell Boyd, Roger Savage and David Elfick were all involved in the restoration.
As an added bonus Roger worked his sound magic and the digital version is now for the first time in Dolby 5.1 sound.
Starstruck the stage musical is now being developed, watch this space for more details.
